Your Bed Room Can Be Perfect :D| Small bedroom, office, or dorm room |
A home theater in a box (HTIB) is the ideal solution for small rooms. Most models combine a 5.1-speaker package and an A/V receiver with a built-in DVD player, but if you already have a player or want to stick with videotapes, buy one of the more basic HTIBs that omits the DVD deck. If space is really tight, or if you just don't like dealing with a lot of cables and speakers, consider the one- or two-speaker models that use virtual surround modes to simulate the effect the encircling effects you'd get from multiple speakers. Finally, don't sweat the low power-amp ratings on these HTIBs: filling tiny rooms with sound isn't very taxing--just don't expect massive loudness capability from an HTIB.
Recommended HTIBs:
Model name | Summary | Built-in DVD/CD player? |
| Onkyo LS-V955 | This system costs more than most HTIBs, but it's worth it if you care about style and sound. | Yes |
| Sony DAV-X1 | Sony's virtual-surround Dream System can unleash a full, enveloping sound from DVDs, but it's less satisfying with CDs. | Yes |
| Cambridge SoundWorks SurroundWorks 200 | If you'd rather not deal with surround-sound setup hassles, a rats' nest of wires, and a room full of speakers, the SurroundWorks 200 will be music to your ears. | Yes |
| KEF KIT100 Instant Theatre | KEF's luxurious Instant Theatre makes believable surround from a pair of speakers. | Yes |
| Yamaha YSP-1 Digital Sound Projector | Yamaha's bleeding-edge speaker technology creates a convincing surround-sound effect, but the quality won't satisfy audiophiles. | No |
| JVC EX-A1 | The EX-A1 is a beautifully executed audio system that reaches beyond the mundane stylings of typical home-theater-in-a-box fare. | Yes |
